The questions to ask your quality inspection company

Friday, December 30th, 2011

You can find many 3rd party quality inspection companies on-line. And as with any industry there’s some companies where you get what you pay for, and some that just don’t make the cut.  So, if you’re about to book an inspection, factory audit, or other quality inspection services with a 3rd party quality inspection company here are the questions you should ask first:

1.  How many full-time inspectors does the company have working for it?
2.  How many offices does the company operate and in what locations?
3.  Does the company employ its own inspectors that are full-time employees, or does it sub-contract inspections out to local freelance workers – this is a very important point, companies that use their own in-house inspectors have a much higher level of integrity and generally higher level of service
4.  Has the company every inspected the type of merchandise you are sourcing and can they provide examples of defects they have found in the past with this type of product?
5.  If the inspection passes, but the goods that arrive to you have obvious quality defects, will the China inspection company take any responsiblity or compensate you in any way?
6.  How soon after the inspection can you receive the result?
7.  If there are problems with the goods found during the inspection in what way can the quality inspection company assist you?

Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI)

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

The Pre-shipment Inspection(PSI) is performed prior to the shipment of the finished product and includes a sampling inspection. Production samples are drawn randomly when they are packed for shipment. A comprehensive inspection will be conducted at this time, which will insure that all pre-designed specifications and sampling requirements have been met. The sampling is derived from the inspection level requested in accordance with MIL-STD-105D, to ensure our clients are getting what they paid for.
This inspection focuses specifically on product quantity, workmanship, color, dimension, weight, labeling, packing, shipping marks, safety on-site tests and the client’s customized protocol. We work with you to sort out defect items with the factory.

During Production Check

Monday, November 21st, 2011

At 20% of the order completion, the production line is inspected. The During Production Check (DUPRO) verifies initial discrepancies found during the IPC have been corrected, if any. Each stage of the assembly process is analyzed. Samples of goods are taken at this time for quality checking. The DUPRO provides thorough feedback to the factory soon enough for any changes to be made to keep production on time.

Pre-production inspection

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

A pre-production inspection tells the buyer which kind of raw materials (or components) will be used. Factories are often suspected of lowering their costs by purchasing substandard materials, and this can be disastrous for the buyer (e.g. the wrong kind of chip in an electronic device).
Goods are inspected after the production of the first 10 units. The specific goods that will be inspected are taken from the first unit produced, according to the AQL sampling method. The quantity of samples will be pre-determined by the client in the inspection request form.

Make sure your goods are manufactured according to your standards
Prevent initial non-conformity due to misunderstanding with your supplier
Reduce new product launch lead time (as well as Express Courier Fees and other related costs)

The four types of quality inspection services

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Four types of quality inspection services are usually distinguished. Each one corresponds to a particular step in the production process. They are all part of the toolbox of every importer, when it comes to buying in China and other low-cost Asian countries.

The four types of quality inspection services, All quality inspection services are not adapted to the same situation:

1. A pre-production inspection tells the buyer which kind of raw materials (or components) will be used. Factories are often suspected of lowering their costs by purchasing substandard materials, and this can be disastrous for the buyer (e.g. the wrong kind of chip in an electronic device).

2. A during production inspection (often called “DUPRO” in the industry) allows the buyer to have an idea of average product quality, early in the production cycle. It is the most useful and the most under-rated tool at the disposal of importers, who often only rely on final inspections.

3. The pre-shipment inspection(also called “final random inspection”) is by far the most common type of QC check. It takes place once 100% of shipment quantity is finished and at least 80% is packed, so it can be a real random inspection (this is not exactly the case if quality is checked earlier earlier) and suppliers cannot play games.

4. The container loading inspection, like the pre-production inspection, it is seldom used. But it can be a worthwhile option in some specific cases.
